Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is an international marine conservation organization that implements hands-on programs to involve local communities in conservation-focused activities. REEF was founded in 1990 and is based in Key Largo, Florida, with additional staff in Illinois, California, Washington, Colorado, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Its mission is to protect biodiversity and ocean life by actively engaging and inspiring the public through citizen science, education, and partnerships with the scientific community.

REEF's work focuses on four main projects: the Volunteer Fish Survey Project, the Grouper Moon Project, the Invasive Species Program, and the Ocean Explorers Education Program. Visit the program pages in the menu above for more information on each.

Mauritius Marine Conservation Society

The Mauritius Marine Conservation Society (MMCS) is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) which has been operating for more than 40 years in Mauritius, focusing on the education about and conservation of the marine environment in Mauritius as well as the development of underwater archaeology in the Southwest Indian Ocean region. // We are actively working to raise awareness amongst the people of Mauritius of the rich marine resource, and the preservation of underwater heritage sites.

We are constantly striving at moving forward with our various programmes in research, public awareness and conservation, towards achieving a healthy marine environment and preserved Underwater Cultural Heritage sites for the long-term prosperity of Mauritius and its people.

Our motto: “Conservation through Education”. The main objective is to promote awareness and appreciation of marine life, an interest in the need for marine conservation, as well as to develop underwater archaeological research in Mauritius.

Coastal Oceans Research and Development in the Indian Ocean (CORDIO) was established in 1999 as a regional research network in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) focused on coral reef science. Its formation was originally spurred by the global coral bleaching event of 1998.

Registered as a non-profit organisation in Kenya in 2003, CORDIO has grown over the past two decades into a leading centre for coastal marine and ocean science and conservation in East Africa and the wider WIO region.
