The Mauritius Marine Conservation Society (MMCS) is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) which has been operating for more than 40 years in Mauritius, focusing on the education about and conservation of the marine environment in Mauritius as well as the development of underwater archaeology in the Southwest Indian Ocean region. // We are actively working to raise awareness amongst the people of Mauritius of the rich marine resource, and the preservation of underwater heritage sites.
We are constantly striving at moving forward with our various programmes in research, public awareness and conservation, towards achieving a healthy marine environment and preserved Underwater Cultural Heritage sites for the long-term prosperity of Mauritius and its people.
Our motto: “Conservation through Education”. The main objective is to promote awareness and appreciation of marine life, an interest in the need for marine conservation, as well as to develop underwater archaeological research in Mauritius.
