Country/Region: Global

The Thermal Ecology Alliance (TEA) is a global collaborative initiative aiming to bring together people committed to predicting, communicating, and mitigating the impacts of changing temperatures on biodiversity.

The impacts of climate change are accelerating at an unprecedented rate. Now, more than ever, we urgently need to build accurate predictions of the most vulnerable species and regions to design effective mitigation and conservation strategies. Through community-driven initiatives and open discussion, the Thermal Ecology Alliance works to collect high-quality data, resolve points of contention, build consensus, and spark innovations at unprecedented rates—giving us the power to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our generation.

Marine Mammal Observer Association (MMOA)

Category: Ocean Professionals

Focuses on: Biology/Ecology; Marine Mammals; Career Development Support

Country/Region: International

The Marine Mammal Observer Association (MMOA) is a membership-based association with the aim of bringing together and representing individuals who work commercially and professionally as marine fauna mitigation professionals who implement mitigation measures to protect marine life during industry operations.

MMOA aims to work with professional, experienced and newly qualified MMOs, PSOs and PAM operators, industry, government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and academics to improve the profession's effectiveness by:

  • Developing professional competency.

  • Improving collection and use of data.

  • Assimilating field experience and knowledge of marine fauna mitigation professionals.

  • Providing a collective voice for offshore professionals.

  • Promoting the marine fauna mitigation profession in the offshore industry.

  • Improving protection for marine mammals.

MMOA seek to achieve this through:

  • Attendance at relevant conferences and meetings by MMOA spokespersons to represent marine fauna mitigation interests.

  • Recognising the skills of professional MMOs, PSOs, PAM Operators, MMO managers and associated consultants and providing marine fauna mitigation professionals with career development opportunities and advice.

  • Encouraging feedback from professional and experienced marine fauna mitigation professionals through an online forum.

  • Providing a point of contact for advice and consultation on marine mammal mitigation issues, feedback on improving/reviewing guidelines and marine fauna mitigation data collection.

  • Improving knowledge of members through an Information Directory

  • Working to encourage and promote the systematic collection, collation and analysis of marine fauna data worldwide.
